One of our local kiters and sailboat delivery captain Josh Metcalf has happened onto the job of a lifetime. He is captain of a 62' sailing catamaran called the Nanan, which was built in Europe and delivered by container ship to West Palm Beach. Josh and crew then sailed Nanan down to Ft. Lauderdale for several months of refits and additions to get prepared for the big journey. In February the boat was sailed back to West Palm Beach, loaded onto another container ship, this time bound for Martinique in the Windward Islands. They picked her up and sailed down to St. Lucia to await instructions. After a couple of weeks changing registrations, and more refits, they decided to sail up to St. Martin where there were more resources to change out a cockpit station to increase visibility at the helm. From there it was south to Los Roques Archipelago off the coast of Venezuela, one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.

Josh has been sending updates via Facebook, but I thought I would share a couple of things I found online about this incredible kiteboarding destination. It is true that you have to fly thru Caracas or sail from Bonaire to get to Los Roques, but from the looks of it, it might be worth the risk.
