Hey guys,
I'm extremely happy with the HIR so far but I'm wondering if its better 5 line. I experimented with the zipper and its actually worked more than I thought it would. I flew the 10 and 13 while I was in delray and I actually had the 13 fold on me like Dayrl warned me. It was in the 18-20mph range and I had 15m lines on it and I was pulling in hard on the bar. I let out as soon as I saw it crease and it went back to normal. I'll be up sometime soon for a 5 line bar. From watchin the kite when tyler was flying it and the pictures it looks a little funky with the 4 line setup Like a U shape instead of C. I also had my cabrinha safety release break on me while riding Friday. It was a good thing I was close to shore and had a good grip on the bar. Had to ride in unhooked and over sheeted, so I'm done with that bar setup. I was wondering also whats the differnece between the HIR bar and the Type 7, is it just a leash or is there more?
I dont mind spendin a few extra bucks for a new leash though.

Yes, the HIR is made to fly 5th line. You an fly it 4 line in normal "average conditions" for that kite size, but if it gets super strong, that is where the 5th Line is needed. With the 5th line, it won't do what happenned to you today. I always fly mine 5th line. The Type 7 can be flown 4 or 5 line...either way works fine. In terms of the bars, they are exactly the same. The only difference is the Type 7 bar comes with the fancy bungie leash, adn the HIR bar comes with a standard rope style leash. Any 5 line bar will work on them. I actually use the Slingshot 5 Line bar on mine...

Just wondering was there a reason you used the SS over the RRD? Is there a different where the centerline Y's between the two bars? The other thing is it looks like I'm heading back out to Maui in the next few months and I was curious if there were any kites in the 6m range other than the Torch 2 that you guys liked. I hope Daryl didn't get to spoiled with wind on his trip.

Later,
Toast

one last thing do you have the sheeting line for the 04 cabrinha bars. Basically the piece that the chicken look is attached to that runs through the bar and attaches to the depowerstrap.

The RRD bars are very nice, but I went with the SS bar because it has the 5th line cleat. Other than that, the bars are very similiar. I like the cleat in case it gets very windy or if I am riding waves, I can kill the power more with just pulling a few inches of the 5th line, and cleating it down.
We do have the Cabrinha parts, and we also got the SS Swivels in that I think you were waiting for? In terms of 6m kites, or kites in that size range(7m would work too): RRD Type7 7m, Naish Raven 6m, Naish TorchII 6m, SS Fuel 7m...

I'll be up tomorrow, I've got an 8m HIR so I wanted to try to stick to 6m size, I guess it looks like a TorchII I've got a 5.5 and 6.5 nitro already but if I go 5 line I'd rather rotate my quiver and have everything similar with bars. I guess I'll have to look and see when I get up there but I don't need the swivels anymore if I go with new bars.

Raven 6m or Torch 6m... either would be killer. Daryl rides the Raven 6m for his super high wind kite...he is a bit crazy though and rides it with a pulley...even if it is blowing in the 40's! I, go with the 5th line.....
