Huguenot Park will be covered in some areas with baby birds (mostly in zones 11 and 12) in a few weeks. When the closed area goes into affect please do not have any inflated kites over the beach even if you are carrying it up to or back from the point. To launch in the closed area you must keep the kite in the bag or completely rolled up and walk north past the baby birds. Park in zone 12 or as close as you can. Please do not ride with your kite inside the breaking surf in areas where baby birds are sitting on the beach near the water. There are not expected to be any baby birds on the pond side this year and the drive lane should remain open all the way to the phone pole. Parking there might be better and it might be a shorter walk across the point to the shoals. Until then be aware that the wind has deposited about 8 inches of soft sand over the hard pack so driving is hard on the point. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE follow these requests. The Audubon is going to take another run at removing as many people from the park as they can so dont give them any ammunition. Every time there is a disturbance of the birds out there they are waiting with cameras to record the event. They use these pictures to build a case to try to kick us out of the park. DO NOTHING that may cause the baby birds to be herded around on the beach. The access you enjoy is on the line so help spread the word and keep it open for kiting. Thank you.

The bird fence went up last weekend in zone 12. Please do not ride, fly or even carry an inflated kite over the beach between the bird fence and the last lifeguard stand. Do not ride past this area with your kite inside the surf brake. The bird stewards are out there looking for any disturbance they can document in their continued effort to remove kiter access. The inside driving lane is still open up to the telephone pole. The city wants to keep it open this year. Parking there will be better and less crowded than on the front side. The shape of the beach profile is lower than in the past so when you park make sure that you are above the high tide mark. The lower profile will result in more park closings during high tide and high use times. Before you go to the park it is a good idea to call and ask if they expect to close that day. On the point shoals and sandbars try to stay away from big flocks of birds sitting on the sand. Every time a kiter scares up a big flock of birds some Audubon freak is there to photograph it. Don't give them the ammo to kick us out!

Even after all the bird stuff is taken into consideration the park is the best place to ride in north FL. It's the only good place to ride west winds anywhere close. Help keep us in the park by being considerate of other users and wildlife. THANKS!

Dang, how long do you think this will last? Guess if I'm in J'ville Hanna will be a little easier. Well, during the week days anyways.

so realistically and for all practical purposes, kiteboarding is banned at hugenot park. the birders have won :( the few extra knots of wind gained by opposing tide is great but not worth the hassle. i'll stay clear of huggenot as i don't want to be the one who shuts it down for everyone. you're a good man paul....can't believe you're still iin this fight. thats stamina!
