so frustrating this wind!! Its always the same this time of year here, from around Feb - Sept the predominant wind direction is always West but from now until Jan its East or South which are always gusty and on/off.

Thanks for the info, will try to around 6psi next time. I just dont trust pumps with gauges on!

I think even if it means driving 3hrs each way this weekend I am going to get out, can wait to try this kite, have you seen the post on kiteforum from Jezmondo the RRD team rider saying he was going upwind in 10knots on his 12mtr hyper! If that is true then this is going to be one sweet kite!

cheers
adam

yep
I ride in a place called Redcar, UK - it has three lagoons, two beaches and a man made 'reef' break. It takes wind on all points of the compass - worst direction is SSW and yes last two sessions have been SSW.
What little I have used the kite has been impressive. lowest I will use the 12m is 15mph as I have a 16m. but top end looks good too. I have taken off the neoprene line covers at the bar end - nuicance to me! I find the CL finger a little soft and short so can fall off if not under power - but these are the only things on the slight downside so far!

I know Redcar well, I am from Newcastle originally and used to have a girlfriend in marske by the sea! Small world..

I did wonder about the donkey dick, it looks very flimsy...so to speak. I may just use the one from my sonic bar.

would you say you would be up and riding in 12 knots on the 12?

cheers

bet you miss them luvely noreasterlies eh?

mmm... 12 mph? well yes on my 145 hustla and with some sineing OR no probs with my nobile skim board - I'm 95 kgs (200lbs).
But my 16m waroo loves those conditions so I wouldn't if you see what I mean.

i certainly do mate! I am actually thinking of taking my gear back with me over christmas this year and hiring a car etc to take advantage of any wind. Last year i was bored after about 24hrs!

hopefully i will get going in 11-12 knots, i am about 73kg, if the skywalker board is too small i still have my 150 beast which should get me planing a little earlier.

Have you left your inside lines connected on the middle knot of the bar and just left the outside lines at default? Seems to be what most people are using.

cheers

well if I had any decent wind I would have - that seesm to be the default but I have asked this a couple of times on this forum - kites so new there doesn't seem to any consensus yet - suck it and see. If you find out before me - let me know!!

Had my 3rd sesh with the 15 today. Wind super light - 11-14mph. I got the launch down via the method NYC describes - putting sand on the non-folded wingtip. I launched it 3-4 times with ease. Landed the kite solo and walked up the front lines and it flipped over easily.

I also moved the back lines to the outer posion on the bar to make the bar longer. Did notice a slight increase in turning speed with the longer bar. A few times when I changed directions, the kite swung so fast it hit the water going the other way. When you pull the other side of the bar in hard, the kite makes a nice fast pivot turn and comes back up.

The kite rode upwind well when I switched to my bigger board in the light conditions. Can't wait to try it with a surfboard. In superlight conditons yoiu get more low end if none of the depower rope is in the cleat. I had the depower rope sitting above the cleat to max the low end.

Still so stoked on the hyper that I ordered a 9 from Daryl. Should have a report on the 9 next week.

Nuke, the kite looked good out there. I was impressed watching you go upwind in that light stuff. Also the self launch I saw you do looked easy.
About 20 minutes after you left it started to pick up until I got blown off my 17, probably low 20's.

OK- 4th session on the Hyper 15 today. Wind light.....16 dropping to 11 increasing to 16 dropping to 11. A buddy of mine (alex) held up a wind meter and it was reading 11mph. At the time of the reading, I was maintaining ground on the hyper and Airrush exile 135. Rode most of the day with the bar pulled in for max power.
The 15 is definately a lite wind killer. It's the first kite I have owned that is fun in 10-15mph, most likely because it turns fast and enables you to do small tricks and pop style jumps.

Nukin,

Sweet pics and I must agree, the 15m Hyper is the most fun I have ever had on a kite in 10 to 12 knots (I've ridden for more days in that kinda stuff than your average guy would ever admit to).

Like you said, the 15 Hyper allows you to do some jumps and whip style tricks and easily go upwind in that kind of wind.
I wouldn't have stayed out in my socks unless it was fun that first night with the Hyper!!

well i finally got to try out my hyper 12mtr today, what can i say but awesome kite :D

The conditions were not the best, i measured the wind and it was going between 10-13 knots but was averaging around the 12 mark. I was a bit sceptical that i would even get up riding, a friend of mine was on his 05 rhino 18mtr and in the lulls he was even struggling but he is probably 2 stone heavier. On that note I am approx 75kg and ride a skywalker 130 board.

The first mistake i made when setting up was to try adjusting the line setting to the middle knot on the bar which seems to be a good setting for most people. With the bar on this setting i found the kite would oversheet and stall then hindenburg. This was a bit suprising as my 11mtr sonic did not do this. So i put the lines back to their defaults (first knot) and it made a big difference, no more stalling or hindenburgs.

The bar pressure is so light, even lighter then my sonic. So light you think to yourself how on earth is going to produce any power at all. I dived the kite and to my amazement i was up, after another 3 sines of the kite i could lock it in the window and begin edging....i really could not believe it. Because of the wind direction i was able to edge upwind to my left but i would then run out of space before being able to get upwind enough to come back...if that makes sense...sorry i am rambling i know.

One thing that i did notice when i tried the safety release is that the bar seems to stick and will not slide up very far, but i am thinking this is because it was not under enough load.

Any thoughts on best settings at the bar end? Have many people adjusted the bar for faster turning? Not that i am convinced it needs it!

:D

I think default settings on the end is perfect for the 12. Maybe moving them out will help for those who want faster turning on the 15. I just did this on a bar in the parking lot, and maybe I will ride the 15 Hyper after work :P

Is it obvious how to change the outside line settings from "inside to outside" of the far end of the bar? or should I make a 45 second video clip?

Okay.
I will try to get it done. I should have had Rob and I just do it (an hour ago).
We just got skunked buggying (that's hard to do, it has to be sub 8 knots).
The vid would have been a better use of time.

Its not obvious by staring at the bar, but then you see it done and you go "DOH!" :)
