The new Light Wind Undergrounds FINALLY got here :P
They are called the FLX XXXL.

We considered riding them today, but it might be too windy by the time we get out of here (30+)

Okay, anyway, here are the pictures. Notice the 1" fins and Extreme Kites logo.

We will have some reviews as soon as the wind slows down.

Well, the wind didn't really happen for us here, so the FLX XXXL did get a head to head battle with the Glide last night in light, dead on shore winds in chop (and ominous skies)

Daryl rode the two boards back to back for about 30 minutes (5 minutes on one, 5 on the other several times) as I served as "board bitch" switching them out. He was very pleased with the UG XXXL. I will hop on one soon and give my impressions.

The storms came in last night before I got my turn :? :(
So far so good on this board. Daryl will be glad to answer any questions on the phone, but in case you haven't noticed, he can't type!!

Daryl and Scott,

I wanted to comment on my new XXXL. I was down with the guys Tuesday and picked her up (she's big but she gets it done... )

The forecast yesterday was for 20kts NE, so naturally up at the park we got 10-15MPH SE, did have the outgoing current and it puffed up higher but I don't think it gust over 18-20. I'm still on C-kites and add on the 225lbs, I'm at a disadvantage compared to all those scrawny guys on the beach. I've tried a couple of different light wind boards out from the guys at the park, but nothing really bit me as a "big" difference from my biggest (158 prodigy).

The XXXL is big, no doubt about it and it is kind of scary looking. But she damn sure gets it done. And the thing I was most worried about, how it took the surf, well that wasn't a problem she handled it fine (5-7ft forecast, I dont think it was quite that but some big ones out there and sloppy). I bit it the first tack or two, but after that, I got the hang of it. The only thing to really watch out for is letting it break right on your nugget just a lot of surface area to catch a lot of water (kind of rogue wave I found out there and the two times I found it, it broke overhead on me, I should have pulled out of it but didn't my fault). It's obviously much better in flatter water but , you can get it in the surf you just have to pay attention.

It's plenty manuverable also, Paul took it out and I saw him make do a back roll or two on it and best I recall he was on a 9m. I skimmed it right through ankle deep water no problems.

Bottom line, that board is a huge step. let me do what I couldn't do before. I rode my 15M Cab Access yesterday in 10-15Mph. Never happened before. That kite normally wouldn't come out of the bag unless it was sticking up at 20mph and no way dipping down to 10. I didn't think I needed a light wind board, I was wrong! This is exactly what I needed. And if it ever goes out of style, it'll make great coffee table.

Thanks guys,

Matt

Sweet! :D

The coffee table comment is just what I said!!

Light wind riding and the light wind weapons (boards especially) will never go out of style, however.

If for some odd reason there is still someone out there who has not used a light wind board in sub 13, try it....
you will like it! :)

what are the exact dimensions of the 152 xxxl? no rocker or concave at all?

already have a 152x44 UG as my all around board- 6'4 260lbish. use a 179x46 litewave for only a small advantage in lighter wind that i wouldnt mind replacing w/ a smaller board w/ great light wind traits for easier transporting in a car. opinion plz

The XXXL is a 148x46 cm board with 12mm rocker and is 44cm wide in the tips. This board is a great learning board for bigger guys from 10 to 15 knots.

The primary difference of the XXXL from the Glide is that it varies in outline mainly at its tips. The Glide tapers to approximately 38 cm at its tips (depending where you decide to measure), I measured between the two fin holes. The XXXL has minimal taper, hence the rectanglur look.

I view the XXXL as being just as how it sounds. It's the big boy's Glide at a great price, too. (gotta call)

It points upwind a little better than the Glide in the really light stuff and is less squirrelly in 13+ for average riders. In lots of ways, the Glide is a technical board to ride and beginners can sometimes struggle with it, especially when becoming powered up.

The XXXL is a "hop on it and go" light wind board for a beginner above 150 and a great light wind board for big boys.

For better riders, they will notice the XXXL is a little slower than the Glide.
I wouldn't want to race Pat on a Glide if I was on the XXXL. (Come to think of it, don't want to race and lose to him, period!)
The speed difference is really only noticeable at 13+ knots. But I felt the board "topped out" in speed before the glide. Maybe I just imagined it, but I don't think so.

The Crazy Fly 145 by 44 is also a great first time board for a guy between 150 to 190. I nicknamed the CF 145 the mini-glide.
I guess the XXXL could be nick-named the magna-Glide.

Oh, no concave on the XXXL. Concave is a light wind board's enemy
