We had a chance to ride the new Undeground FLX's yesterday...winds were super light(probably averaging around 10mph), but we had an oppossing current, so it added a little extra boost. I was on my 16m RRD HIR and initially the Slingshot SX 151. I was doing fine and able to get back to the same point on the beach. Jumped on the 152 FLX and did way better. I love my SX 151 but this was so much smoother, planed up faster and had insane pop. I even jumped on J's FLX 132 and could stay upwind and get back to the same point. Next, I jumped on the SS Glide, and definitely had more upwind ability with the Glide over all of them. So, the Glide is still the SUPER light wind machine, but the FLX 152 is pretty darn close to that, plus from the feel of it, I can tell it will be awesome in higher winds where the Glide usually stops becoming fun... Anyway, here is an email from one of our local guys that just picked up a 152 and 132 FLX and was out there with us yesterday:

"Some feedback on the 152 x 44.Had a chance to ride the board yesterday PM in light (8 to 12 mph) winds in the inlet with the current at full flow. The board is amazing! Not quite as efficient as the SS Glide but looked and felt a little more efficient than the SS SX151. I weigh 205lbs and in those conditions I really had no problem staying upwind. The pop off the water for such a big board was remarkable. It is also very smooth to ride or transition heel to toe. Underfoot it doesn't feel like a 152 it feels significantly smaller. Traded off to Johnathan and rode his new 132 which also planned up, but not near as well, but that board felt great too. J- was doing backs to blind and riding blind all the way across the inlet on the 152 no problem. This board has a perfect blend of light wind pertformance while having on the water agility and pop that I haven't experienced in boards of this size range. I'm happy and UG definitely has a winner with the 152. Now we need some more wind to get the 132 fired up."

I noticed on the Underground webstie, the width of the 152 is 40cm. Are there two versions of this board, one with 40cm width and a 44cm?

Which do you recommend for light wind use for a rider weighing 160 lbs.

I was thinking about getting a Glide but now considering this instead.

Thanks.

Steve

Steve,
Yes...they made 2 versions of the 152 this year. One that is 152x42, and one that is 152x44. The 152x44 is the one we have been riding, and it rocks. Very good light wind board, but also one you should be able to still hold down in stronger winds with ease. Go with the 152x44!

Guys, Thank you for the sickest board I've ridden...ever. It kills that RRD Pro Model 2 I had before. I've only ridden it underpowered and then today moderately powered. The board feels much different from the RRD. It throws spray like the Model 2 but has the size that I don't lose ground too fast.

I've got the FLX 128 and I'm about 150lbs, Haven't gotten to test the upwind on it. Theres just been nothing to ride but sea breezes.

-Landings are extremely forgiving, the flex of the board and bottom shape make the landings easy. You can come down wrong and still pull it off as long as you plant it underneath ya.

-Rides smooth when you've got it flat or burried on the rail.

-Skatey when I wanted it to be but you can plant it when you need to handle the power. Toeside butter slides down the front of the waves were controllable and easy.

-Board construction is sick for how light it is. I doubt this ones gonna break anytime soon. The board is both light to carry and acts like a feather when your riding. I was mixing up my backroll kiteloops going strait over my head then like a flat roll. It was so easy to throw around.

I doubt anyone looking for a high performance board would be dissapointed with a FLX

Toast

ps- those pictures don't do it justice.
