Just a reminder to all. Make sure you have a hook knife. Make sure it is in working condition. Why?

I had a scary session a few days ago. I dropped my kite in the surf and my leading edge exploded. While I was swimming back to shore my lines wrapped around my ankle about 10 times and then a wave pulled the kite. The lines tightened around my ankle and I was dragged feet first under water behind the kite for 10 yards. The lines were so tight that they were digging into my skin. I could not get them lose. I reached for my knife and it wasn't there. ( It was still on my old harness).

I was lucky and was able to get to shore and free my leg. It was painful. ( the picture was taken a week after)

Be sure to have a hook knife on you at all times! Make sure it's not rusted (I pack my knife blade with vasaline)
