If you have been checking the wind report you know that I forecasted some W winds this past weekend. I took my own advice and went to Vilano around 11 a.m. this past Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to see the wind popping up right on schedule with sunny skies and incoming tide. Despite the 20 standup jet skis, hundreds of powerboats whizzing by at high speed, and about half as many sailboats going either direction, I was able to ride for 2 1/2 hours on the 2009 Best Waroo 9 meter fully powered. I recently sold my 13 in favor of the new Waroo Stealth, and at first I was convinced that the 9 would not be enough to pull my 215 pounds around on the water. But with 4-5 knots of opposing current and the occasional gust over 20 knots, I was able to get some nice jumps and stay upwind without working the kite at all the entire time. After a month of no kiting, it was really a pleasure to get out there and cruise! More SW winds in the forecast for the next few days as long as the storms hold off.
So that was a good warmup. What's next? SUP demo this weekend. Hilton Head 3rd week of July with all of the Toys, and then Costa Rica for 8 days starting July 26. Yes, I am bringing a kite and my Resin8 6'2" round pin with straps just in case of the odd sea breeze in the afternoon. I have heard stories of people kiting almost every afternoon on parts of the Pacific coast. I will get some photos and send a report when I get back.
