I just sold my 2006 16M Waroo and am looking to replace it with either the 13M or the 15M Waroo. Can anyone give me some advice as to which kite to get. I am also looking to get a 8 or 9M kite (hopefully a Waroo) for the really windy days.

I got rid of the 16M because I seemed to get overpowered all the time and it was slow. I am really thinking about the 13M but I am scared that I will miss out on a lot of the light wind days that we get most of the time. Does anyone know how the 13M and 15M compare? Also, is it better to get the 13M since it will be quicker through the window?

Any help is appreciated.

Hey Jax, how much do you weigh? I like the 13m over the 15m but I weigh 170. The 13 is definitely much quicker through the window, the difference is amazing but sometimes you need the 15 for the grunt.
I did a shootout between the two a couple weeks back

Thanks Codder. I weigh about 170 as well. I have heard good things about the smaller Waroos and am leaning towards the 13M but I just don't want to miss out when we get our seabreezes of 15-17 (the normal day-to-day FL stuff).

What was the low end on the 13 when you tested it? What is your advice if I add a 9M Waroo to the quiver - A 9M and a 13M or a 9M and a 15M?

9m and 13m for sure if you weigh 170. Also alot of this depends on your boards. I had an Underground 148 until recently that would get me going with the 13m in about 12mph. If you have a decent light wind board definitely go 13!

Codder is dead on about the 13m being a lot more performance oriented and being the better choice at our size. The 15 has more grunt, but at the cost of not being as fast, etc.

To add though, I have 2 friends on the 15m here.
One weighs 165 and is an intermediate rider who doesn't "love" being overpowered. He tells me he can easily hold down the 15m to 20 knots and I saw him on it one day in the low 20's when I was pretty litt on the 9m Waroo. So I know from seeing it the 15m can go 20 plus at our size without great strain or technique.

We also have a couple guys that have the 11m Waroo and no larger kites. One weighs about 170, the other 160. Both ride 2 boards (the guy at 170 has the large Skwywalker and a small Skywalker) and gets huge range out of the 11m 'roo. He starts at 10 knots on his larger SW and stays on the 11 until about 25, on the smaller SW. I ride with him all the time and see him do this. He is having a really good time in solid 13/14/15. A real good time. He is riding and not schlogging in solid 11.
Again, this is in no current. Gulf or flat though, in the low teens he is having fun.
I know in S.A. can have current and take away power, so just want to acknowledge that.

So, as Codder is saying, the 13 m should be fine on a reasonable board, especially in the 15-17 knot range, no probs at all.

Hope this gives you some pespective on what the 15 can pull...
